First practice for the Las Vegas Grand Prix has been cancelled after just over eight minutes of running due to a loose drain cover.
The race was stopped when Carlos Sainz’s car suffered damage from hitting a loose drain cover, causing his engine to shut off. Fortunately, Sainz was not injured. The session was halted so that the FIA could assess the safety issue. Alpine’s Esteban Ocon also had to change his chassis due to damage from the incident. Despite limited running, Charles Leclerc had the fastest lap time, leading Nico Hulkenberg by 2.5 seconds.
