During the Miami Grand Prix, there was a conflict between Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz regarding team orders, but it was quickly resolved within two minutes, as stated by Williams team principal James Vowles, who attributed the issue to team miscommunication. Sainz was upset over Albon overtaking him despite being instructed to stay behind, thinking it was against the team’s orders. The confusion arose when Albon was mistakenly told to hold position due to a water pressure issue while in the midst of making a pass on Sainz with DRS assistance. Following the race, Vowles addressed the situation with both drivers in a debriefing session, clarifying the miscommunication and ensuring such incidents would not happen again by improving team processes. Vowles emphasized the need for clearer and more concise instructions for the engineers to relay to the drivers to avoid similar misunderstandings in the future. This adjustment in communication strategy aims to streamline radio communications and provide drivers with a better understanding of the team’s decisions during races.
