Verstappen worked to force Sainz into mistake to win F1 Italian GP
Carlos Sainz started the race in pole position and defended well against Max Verstappen in the early stages, but on lap 15 he made a mistake at Turn 1, allowing Verstappen to take the lead. Verstappen credited his strategy of forcing Sainz into a mistake and was able to maintain his lead for the rest of the race, securing his 10th consecutive Grand Prix victory. Sainz’s Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc, finished in fourth place. Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner, praised Sainz’s defensive driving and acknowledged the intense battle between the two drivers. Sainz later explained that he was struggling with his rear tires, which ultimately cost him the lead to Verstappen.
