Pirelli’s new C6 tyre, introduced in the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, has sparked mixed reactions among Formula 1 teams due to its unique performance characteristics compared to the previous C5 tyre.
Although the C6 offers slightly better performance and was designed to be the primary qualifying tyre, teams have struggled with its behavior and grip levels.
Drivers have found the C6 challenging to understand and less confidence-inspiring than the C5, leading some teams to opt for the familiar C5 tyre in qualifying sessions.
Feedback from drivers has prompted Pirelli to make the 2021 compounds less prone to thermal degradation, but this adjustment has inadvertently resulted in more one-stop strategies and processional races.
Despite the challenges and unexpected outcomes, Pirelli remains committed to offering six dry-weather compounds, aiming to find the right balance between performance and tire management in Formula 1.
