Andrea Kimi Antonelli has publicly discussed his first lap collision with Max Verstappen during the Austrian Grand Prix. The young Mercedes driver locked his rear brakes at Turn 3, leading to a crash with the four-time Formula 1 world champion, resulting in both cars retiring. Antonelli clarified that it was not due to late braking but rather a rear brake lock-up that caused him to lose control. He took full responsibility for the incident and offered apologies to both his team and Verstappen, acknowledging the possibility of a penalty affecting his next race at the British Grand Prix. Despite coming off a podium finish in Canada, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff remains cautious, emphasizing the importance of building on recent progress and aiming to maximize points at the upcoming races.
