Lauda’s 1976 German GP helmet to be auctioned at F1 Miami GP
Niki Lauda, a three-time F1 world champion, survived a horrific crash at the Nurburgring, losing his helmet during the impact with the barrier and being hit by another car before being pulled out of his burning Ferrari by fellow drivers. Despite severe injuries, Lauda returned to racing just 40 days after the accident at the Italian GP, finishing fourth. His burnt helmet will be auctioned by Bonhams|Cars Automobilia at the Miami GP in May, with a portion of the proceeds going to UNICEF. Lauda’s son, Lukas, expressed the family’s happiness that his legacy continues to help those in need worldwide. Lauda, who later managed F1 teams and airlines, was known for his commitment to driver safety.
