Hamilton and Russell Speak Out Against FIA President’s Swearing Ban Reversal

Lewis Hamilton criticized the FIA president’s decision to backtrack on the swearing ban, calling the situation “ridiculous” and “a mess.”

George Russell expressed suspicions about the FIA’s intentions to change its stance on punishing drivers, indicating that the reversal seemed “all a bit suspect.”

The FIA revised penalties for drivers for swearing after facing backlash, reducing fines from €40,000 to €5,000 and removing the ban threat for a second offense.

Hamilton commented on the decision ahead of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, describing the situation as absurd and highlighting the need for necessary changes.

Russell, a director of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association, stated that while they were pleased with the reversal, the rules should not have been in place initially.

He noted a lack of direct communication with top FIA officials, expressing a desire for dialogue and willingness from the other party regarding rule changes.
