Alex Marquez and Johann Zarco are being treated in hospital after a crash-heavy Catalan Grand Prix in MotoGP.
At the Catalan Grand Prix, Alex Marquez suffered a fractured neck vertebra and broken collarbone in a high-speed collision with Pedro Acosta, which caused two red flags in the race won by Fabio di Giannantonio. Marquez collided with Acosta’s stalled bike on lap 12, leading to his Ducati flipping through the air in a frightening manner. He was conscious but airlifted to the hospital, where it was confirmed he needed surgery for his collarbone and ongoing evaluation for his neck fracture. The race saw another stoppage due to Johann Zarco’s accident, with Di Giannantonio ultimately winning his first MotoGP race after a challenging day that underscored the dangers of motorcycle racing. Reflecting on the events, Di Giannantonio expressed hope for Marquez’s recovery and emphasized the risks involved in their sport.
