Formula E will say goodbye to a fan favourite venue at the end of the season, but another is looking increasingly likely to be safe.
Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds has explained the possibility of keeping Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport Circuit for Gen4, contrary to London’s ExCeL Centre. Tempelhof Airport has been a fixture in Formula E history, hosting races in nearly every season since the championship’s inception, including last weekend’s Berlin E-Prix double-header. The venue has a long-term contract with Formula E and remains a fan favorite despite some drivers’ desire for a longer and more challenging circuit. Reports suggested a potential switch to the Norisring for Gen4, but acquiring permits has posed challenges, indicating Tempelhof’s likely continuation on the calendar for 2027. Dodds has expressed admiration for the unique venue, which also saw a brief Gen4 test during the Berlin races. As Dodds highlighted, Berlin’s abrasive concrete surface at Tempelhof creates high tire degradation, leading to distinct and engaging racing compared to other tracks on the Formula E calendar.
