McLaren will not be aided by the FIA’s Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities programme, so it must channel its focus on other areas of the MCL40 to improve, RacingNews365 technical expert Paolo Filisetti explains.
McLaren finally managed to field two cars in Japan after three races and a double DNS at the Chinese Grand Prix due to software issues. The MCL40’s concept was proven sound at Suzuka, but critical issues remain unresolved. Tyre degradation was a major weakness experienced in Melbourne and Shanghai. Team principal Andrea Stella has acknowledged the car’s underdeveloped state, with upgrades planned for the Miami race to improve performances. Despite lacking access to ADUO concessions, McLaren aims to enhance aerodynamics and redistribute load for smoother weight transfer on the MCL40. Upgrades for Miami will focus on addressing weaknesses and integrating a more effective aerodynamic DNA into the car’s dynamics.
