Lando Norris attributed his Monaco Grand Prix pole result to “driving smarter” rather than faster, marking his first satisfying Q3 run since the opening race of the 2025 Formula 1 season in Australia. McLaren opted to let Norris and teammate Oscar Piastri have two runs on their final set of tires, which helped Norris set a new track record with a time of 1m09.954s after an initial 1m10.125s. This success ended a series of disappointing Saturdays for Norris, who had faced criticism for not maximizing his car’s potential in qualifying. Norris credited a combination of car improvements and personal adjustments for his performance, highlighting the unique challenges of Monaco and the need for a different driving style. While acknowledging the importance of his pole position in Monaco after recent struggles, Norris emphasized the need for consistency in upcoming races like Barcelona and Montreal to truly consider it a breakthrough moment in his qualifying performance.
