McLaren racer Lando Norris acknowledged making numerous mistakes during the qualifying session for the Formula 1 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, admitting that his qualifying performances throughout the season have not been up to par. Despite his errors, Norris secured a fourth-place starting position for the Imola Grand Prix, trailing behind George Russell, Max Verstappen, and teammate Oscar Piastri, who clinched pole position. Norris bemoaned his shortcomings in qualifying laps, noting that he consistently lags while others improve. This disparity is evident as Piastri’s three pole positions outshine Norris’ lackluster Q3 showings this season. Recognizing his subpar performance, Norris refrained from solely blaming his McLaren car, emphasizing the need to extract more speed from it. Despite his frustrations, Norris remains optimistic about exploiting McLaren’s proficiency in managing tyre wear to advance during the race, hoping for strategic advantages to elevate his position.
