Zak Brown has proposed a solution that would allow F1 to expand to new markets without increasing the rigours of the calendar.
McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown suggests F1 should have 20 permanent rounds on the calendar and rotate eight events to expand into new markets without overburdening drivers and teams.
The expansion of the championship has created challenges in terms of calendar length and demand for slots, but Brown’s proposal could strike a balance.
At a media event prior to the Miami Grand Prix, Brown emphasized F1’s growth as a key success factor for the next five to ten years.
He humorously remarked that “winning” is the ultimate goal, but stressed the importance of the sport’s continuous development.
With some races moving to rotational status, such as Spa-Francorchamps and the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the idea of further expanding the rotation system gains ground.
As countries like South Africa, Thailand, and South Korea seek a place on the schedule, Brown’s plan of 20 fixed races and eight rotating events aims to optimize F1’s global reach within a manageable schedule limit.
