Racing Royalty: Zak Brown Reveals Emotional Response to Gianpiero Lambiase’s Unexpected Departure

Zak Brown has reacted to McLaren securing the services of Max Verstappen’s F1 race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase.

McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown expressed his excitement about appointing Max Verstappen’s race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, as the chief racing officer for 2028. Lambiase will join the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team under Team Principal Andrea Stella. The move is seen as a significant coup for McLaren following recent successes, including back-to-back constructors’ titles and Lando Norris’ drivers’ championship.

As Verstappen’s race engineer since 2016, Lambiase has contributed to four world championships and 71 grand prix victories. His recruitment by McLaren marked a loss for Red Bull, which has seen a series of key personnel depart in recent years, including Adrian Newey and Jonathan Wheatley.

Lambiase’s departure from Red Bull also attracted interest from Aston Martin and Williams before he signed with McLaren. His new role as chief racing officer aims to allow Andrea Stella to focus more on his principal responsibilities while providing strategic leadership for the race team.
