The Mercedes team boss has hinted team orders could be possible between George Russell and Kimi Antonelli.
During a recent interview, Toto Wolff discussed the conditions under which Mercedes would consider implementing team orders on George Russell and Kimi Antonelli following their intense duels in the Canadian GP.
Russell and Antonelli engaged in heated battles throughout the Sprint and main race in Montreal, with Antonelli displaying aggressive driving as Russell defended his position.
An incident in the Sprint saw Antonelli cutting corners to regain an advantage, and in the main race, he narrowly avoided a collision with Russell after a braking error during their close battle.
Although discussions were held with the drivers after the Sprint, the team did not intervene during the race, which ultimately ended on Lap 30 due to Russell’s technical failure, granting Antonelli an uncontested victory.
Wolff emphasized that team orders would only be imposed if Mercedes’ overall result was jeopardized by the drivers’ risky maneuvers, highlighting the need for analysis and communication to prevent potentially dangerous situations on the track.
