Revving Up the Competition: Exploring the Benefits of Adding Rotational Rounds to the F1 Calendar

F1 is near capacity at 24 rounds per season, so should the championship make more events rotational to meet demands from new markets?

There is a significant demand to host a round of the F1 championship, with countries eager to join or rejoin the calendar. The current schedule is already at 24 events per year, which McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown describes as “pretty brutal”. The existing concorde agreement allows for a maximum of 25 rounds per season, with 24 deemed the realistic capacity.

Starting from 2027, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will share a spot on the calendar with Spa-Francorchamps, alternating in odd-numbered years. The returns of the Turkish and Portuguese Grands Prix ensure there will be at least 24 rounds next season. Expanding to reach all interested markets is a challenge without exceeding logistical and health limits.

Brown proposed a model with 20 permanent circuits and eight tracks on rotational schedules, totaling 28 venues in the championship. Share your thoughts on this idea in the comments section and vote in the latest poll by RacingNews365!
