Sebastian Vettel was dramatically denied a race victory in Canada seven years ago after a controversial time penalty handed the win to Lewis Hamilton.
Sebastian Vettel won the 2019 Canadian Grand Prix initially, but a penalty handed Lewis Hamilton the victory on the podium. RacingNews365 revisited this race as the Canadian Grand Prix returned to screens this week. Vettel had led from pole, but a mistake led to an unsafe rejoin in Hamilton’s path. The stewards penalized Vettel, granting victory to Hamilton. Vettel protested vehemently, feeling the win was “stolen.” Hamilton accepted the win but acknowledged the less than ideal circumstances. Ferrari’s appeal of the penalty was unsuccessful, solidifying Hamilton’s victory.
