Oscar Piastri is not quite built in the ilk of an F1 driver from eras gone by, but he does not feel that “genuine” friendships with rivals are right for him.
Australian F1 driver Oscar Piastri finds it challenging to form genuine friendships with fellow drivers due to the competitive nature of their relationship on the track. Piastri appreciates McLaren’s handling of his partnership with Lando Norris, unaffected by their championship rivalry last year. Despite the respect among drivers, Piastri believes it’s difficult to build actual friendships in the F1 paddock where they are rivals. While not seeking advice from other drivers, Piastri acknowledges the distinction between respect and friendship in the sport. He admits that competing against someone so frequently makes it hard to establish true friendships in Formula 1.
