A Legendary Legacy: F1’s Oldest Driver Achieves New Heights in Life and Racing

The oldest living former F1 driver has sadly died at aged 100.

The oldest living former Formula 1 driver, Hermano da Silva Ramos, passed away at the age of 100 in France. He was born in Paris on December 7th, 1925, and participated in seven grands prix between 1955 and 1956 for Gordini, achieving a best finish of fifth place at the 1956 Monaco Grand Prix. Ramos also competed in Le Mans 24 Hours and the Mille Miglia race.

He became the oldest living F1 driver in 2023 and was succeeded by John Rhodes of Great Britain upon his passing. Rhodes, born on August 18th, 1927, participated in the 1965 British GP and currently holds the title of the oldest living F1 driver at 98 years, 8 months, and 18 days as of May 6th, 2026.

However, the oldest living grand prix winner and world champion remains Sir Jackie Stewart, at the age of 86 years, 10 months, and 25 days, holding the legacy as the last surviving winner and champion from the 1960s.
