Michael Schumacher cost himself two F1 titles after ‘losing control’

Michael Schumacher could have been a nine-time champion if he had not “lost control.”

Former Ferrari boss Jean Todt believes Michael Schumacher lost two F1 world titles after he “lost control” in key moments. The first instance was during the 1997 European Grand Prix when Schumacher infamously crashed into Jacques Villeneuve, resulting in his disqualification from the season. The second crucial moment came during the 2006 Monaco GP qualifying session, where Schumacher pretended to crash in an attempt to disrupt his rival Fernando Alonso’s flying lap, leading to his demotion to the back of the grid. These costly mistakes, according to Todt, ultimately cost Schumacher the championship in both instances. Despite Schumacher’s incredible talent and skill, Todt highlights how the loss of control in pivotal moments had severe consequences on his title aspirations, turning what could have been multiple championship victories into missed opportunities.
