Mercedes make ‘too close for comfort’ acknowledgement after George Russell-Kimi Antonelli fight
Mercedes trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin has acknowledged that the battles between George Russell and Kimi Antonelli during the Canadian Grand Prix were “too close for comfort.” The Mercedes duo almost made contact in both the sprint and the grand prix in Montreal, leading to behind-the-scenes conversations. Antonelli found himself off-track twice during the sprint, with Russell ultimately retiring while leading the grand prix due to an ERS module failure. Antonelli claimed a comfortable victory, extending his lead in the championship, but the intense fighting between the drivers captured attention. Shovlin explained that while the heart rate goes up watching them race, the team aims to let them compete freely while ensuring they race fairly and avoid contact. Discussions were held during the weekend, and plans are in place for further talks before the next race.
