Mercedes: Transforming Vulnerability into Strength with Innovative Spoiler Design

Mercedes remedied an issue that had been plaguing the team all season at the Canadian Grand Prix.

According to Martin Brundle, Mercedes was labeled the “biggest spoiler” of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend after resolving their start issue that had plagued them early in the 2026 season.
Up until the fourth round of the season, Mercedes drivers Russell and Antonelli had collectively lost over 20 positions off the start line.
Despite strong starting positions in the early races, Mercedes had led into the first corner only once all season before the Canadian Grand Prix.
Toto Wolff expressed dissatisfaction with the starts, while Simone Resta highlighted the need for improvement as a top priority.
In Montreal, Russell successfully led from sprint pole, marking a significant improvement in Mercedes’ starts.
Brundle emphasized the importance of Mercedes’ start improvement in his post-race analysis, noting Russell’s successful start from pole as a standout moment.
