McLaren’s Call for Prudence Amidst F1 Driver’s Bold FIA Demand

Some F1 drivers have urged the FIA to force through changes to the technical regulations.

McLaren boss Andrea Stella is urging the FIA to continue discussions with power unit manufacturers regarding the 60:40 engine ratio without giving in to drivers’ demands. Senior drivers like Max Verstappen and GPDA director Carlos Sainz are calling on F1’s governing body to stand firm and push through the change in power ratio. The current ratio is 50:50, but there was a tentative agreement to shift it to 60:40 in favor of the internal combustion engine. While Audi and Ferrari are reportedly against the change for 2027, McLaren is in favor, backed by Mercedes HPP. Stella emphasizes the need for careful consideration by the FIA to avoid rushing the change solely in the name of safety. He highlights the broader implications on performance, racing excitement, and the overall driving experience, stressing the importance of involving both F1 and the power unit manufacturers in the decision-making process.
