McLaren team principal Andrea Stella has explained how the team is using the F1 hiatus to fight for “more important positions” at the Miami Grand Prix.
During the impromptu hiatus in F1, McLaren’s focus has shifted to improving their aerodynamic performance, as pinpointed by team principal Andrea Stella.
The cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix has provided the Woking-based squad with extra time to develop the MCL40 further.
The conflict in the Middle East resulted in the postponement of the April races, allowing teams a five-week gap between Japan and the upcoming Miami Grand Prix to refine their packages.
Stella emphasized the opportunity this break presents for McLaren to enhance their car’s speed, particularly in terms of aerodynamics.
Despite significant progress at Suzuka, McLaren is still looking to optimize the effectiveness of their power unit, as demonstrated by Oscar Piastri’s strong finish.
Stella noted the extra time will be valuable for collaborating with Mercedes High Performance Powertrains to fully exploit the power unit’s capabilities.
