McLaren boss Andrea Stella has explained all behind Lando Norris’s retirement in Montreal.
Lando Norris retired from the Canadian Grand Prix due to a gearbox failure, following an unscheduled pit-stop, as McLaren confirmed. The reigning champion had to stop after 38 laps, fighting to regain position within the points after McLaren’s failed choice of intermediate tires at the beginning. Boss Andrea Stella staunchly defended this call, providing more insight into Norris’ troubles, which included an unforeseen pit-stop on Lap 15 before the driver had to pull over mid-race due to car failures. Despite challenges, Stella noted that a gearbox issue, separate from the overheating problem, would have ended Norris’ race regardless, deeming it “not Lando’s day.” It was a day where all issues happened at once, as Stella admitted during media debriefing, including RacingNews365.
