McLaren warned in pre-season that it could happen, but nothing was done.
Andrea Stella, the boss of McLaren, believes that F1 and the FIA need to take responsibility and implement measures to prevent accidents like Oliver Bearman’s from occurring in the future. During pre-season testing, Stella was vocal in warning about the dangers of closing speeds causing incidents, such as when Bearman crashed into the barriers at high speed after being caught out behind another car. The incident, which resulted in Bearman suffering only bruising, highlighted the need for immediate changes to the rules to avoid similar situations. Stella emphasized the importance of proactively addressing safety concerns to prevent incidents instead of reacting after they happen. He stressed the urgency of addressing these issues and implementing necessary safety measures before another potentially more severe accident occurs.
