Revolutionizing the Race: McLaren’s Bold Move with the ‘Ferrari Macarena’ Wing

McLaren could be about to unleash its own version of Ferrari’s Macarena wing at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Over the years, Ferrari has been seen as lacking in aerodynamic innovation, following a more traditional approach to regulations. The 2026 season, however, is showing a shift for the Maranello team with the SF-26 leading in aerodynamic innovation.

A key feature that has caught the attention of rival teams is the fully adjustable flap rear wing, known as the ‘Macarena’ wing, first introduced by Ferrari and later adopted by Red Bull in Miami.

Meanwhile, McLaren focused their upgrades on the MCL40 in Miami, with extensive developments in sidepods, underbody, and front wing, hinting at a Woking-made version of the ‘Macarena’ wing for Montreal.

The rush to produce this component presents challenges due to the unique movement mechanism of the flap, but units have been manufactured in time for installation on both cars for the upcoming race in Canada.

Whether McLaren will use these in practice sessions remains uncertain, given the Sprint format presenting limitations for comprehensive evaluation, despite Ferrari, Red Bull, and McLaren pushing boundaries with new innovations in recent races.
