Zak Brown has addressed the rumours linking Mercedes to purchasing a minority stake in Alpine.
“McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown expressed his belief that co-ownership in Formula 1 is not beneficial for the championship, highlighting Mercedes’ ties to a minority stake in Alpine.
Brown’s viewpoint remains impartial despite Mercedes supplying power units to both McLaren and Alpine, emphasizing his disapproval of setups like Red Bull’s ownership of Racing Bulls.
He firmly suggests that engine providers should be the extent of team relationships, even as Mercedes eyes a potential stake in Alpine alongside other investors.
Brown, speaking to media outlets including RacingNews365, highlighted the risk of compromising sporting fairness with co-ownership arrangements, pointing towards a need for maintaining the integrity of the competition.
The 54-year-old CEO stressed a non-biased approach towards the matter, stating his opposition to co-ownership regardless of the teams or individuals involved, in a bid to preserve the overall health of the sport.”
