Martin Brundle believes Red Bull has a job on its hands to keep Max Verstappen, but he is not certain that any top teams can accommodate the four-time F1 drivers’ champion at the moment.
Martin Brundle has cautioned Max Verstappen about the limited options available for him to switch teams from Red Bull Racing, as the top three teams have already solidified their driver line-ups, leaving little room for the four-time F1 champion.
Although Verstappen has been linked with a move to Mercedes, Toto Wolff has repeatedly expressed satisfaction with their current drivers, George Russell and Kimi Antonelli, whose contracts extend until 2027.
Speculation connecting Verstappen to McLaren has also arisen after his engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, announced his move to the team, but McLaren’s CEO Zak Brown has indicated contentment with their current drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Brundle emphasized the challenge for Verstappen to switch teams based on performance alone, suggesting that Mercedes, McLaren, or Ferrari could be potential destinations if a slot were to open up due to unforeseen circumstances.
The former F1 driver highlighted the critical role of Red Bull Racing’s performance improvements in Verstappen’s decision-making process, especially with significant upgrades expected soon, particularly at the Miami Grand Prix.
