BYD’s vice president has confirmed talks with F1 have taken place. Could F1 gain the Chinese automotive giant?
Giant Chinese manufacturer BYD has confirmed holding conversations with F1 CEO and president Stefano Domenicali. The brand recently surpassed Tesla to become the global top seller of EV vehicles. While BYD previously engaged with Formula E, communication now extends to discussions with F1. FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem expressed openness to welcoming a 12th team, particularly from China. It remains unclear if BYD’s interest lies in forming a new team or partnering with an existing one, with ongoing meetings with Domenicali. BYD vice president Stella Li, a Formula 1 fan, mentioned maintaining a warm relationship with Domenicali and exploring the possibility of testing their technology in F1.
