Liam Lawson issues concerning response to potential F1 regulations change

Possible changes to the F1 regulations from 2027 have been a big talking point, but Liam Lawson has raised another area which needs addressing.

Liam Lawson emphasizes that merely altering the power unit ratio in Formula 1 is insufficient to address the current regulations.

The division of power between internal combustion and electric sources, currently set at 50/50, has faced criticism, with Max Verstappen even threatening to leave the sport if it remains unchanged for 2027.

Discussions revolve around shifting to a 60/40 power unit split next year, favoring internal combustion, despite opposition from Ferrari and Audi until 2028.

Qualifying laps in F1 have become less aggressive due to the emphasis on energy management and conservative driving tactics during races, which have become more prominent this season.

Although Lawson supports transitioning to a 60/40 split in the upcoming season, he doubts it will fully resolve the existing problems in the regulations.

The Racing Bulls driver posits that improvements should also address enhancing downforce, not just focusing on the power unit aspect.

Asked whether the proposed power unit ratio alteration will adequately address F1’s challenges, Lawson suggests that a more comprehensive approach is necessary, as the current regulations may require broader revisions to be truly effective.
