Lance Stroll has explained how Aston Martin’s recent gearbox issues will cause a significant headache for the Silverstone-based squad at the Monaco Grand Prix.
During the Monaco Grand Prix, Lance Stroll revealed that the Aston Martin gearbox loses sync of its gears at the Lowes Hairpin due to reduced speeds, requiring him and Fernando Alonso to re-sync gears each lap on the street circuit in Monte Carlo. This season, Aston Martin switched to its own gearbox after ending their Mercedes partnership in favor of Honda. Alongside power unit issues and underwhelming chassis performance, the team has faced downshift problems since the Miami Grand Prix. Stroll acknowledged that the gearbox and drivability challenges will be significant at Monaco, impeding lap times for the Aston Martins. The constant need to re-sync gears, especially at the Lowes Hairpin, poses a major hurdle for the team during the race weekend.
