Mercedes’ impressive start to the campaign has seen its drivers emerge as the key title protagonists this year.
Former F1 driver David Coulthard has advised George Russell to view the Mercedes title battle as a “war zone” following a strong run from team-mate Kimi Antonelli. Antonelli’s success has propelled him to the top of the drivers’ championship after three events. With Mercedes dominating the new era of the sport, the fight for the title is expected to be between the two Silver Arrows drivers. Coulthard urged Russell to adopt a more competitive approach and no longer act as a friendly team-mate to Antonelli. The former driver highlighted the intensity of the championship battle and questioned if Antonelli can sustain his impressive performance throughout the season. Coulthard also drew comparisons to the experiences of other drivers, emphasizing the physical and mental challenges of a full grand prix season.
