Not the first day of running George Russell would have wished for, but a decent outing for Oscar Piastri.
George Russell will speak to the stewards regarding two incidents that occurred during the second practice session for the Australian Grand Prix, where home hero Oscar Piastri led the way. Russell was initially involved in a pit-lane collision with Racing Bulls rookie Arvid Lindblad before being noted for a practice start infringement. Despite these issues, Russell finished the session third quickest behind Piastri and Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli, with only a third of a second separating the top three drivers. In a surprising turn of events, Russell recorded a lap quicker than Charles Leclerc’s leading FP1 time after enduring an awkward pit-lane moment with Lindblad. The session also saw impressive performances from other drivers, such as Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, with a mix of highs and lows throughout the field, making for an eventful practice ahead of the Australian Grand Prix.
