The FIA is currently locked in negotiations with F1 teams and power unit suppliers over the formulation of the 2027 rules.
Williams driver Carlos Sainz has called on the FIA to enforce changes to the 2027 engine rules, leaving no choice for grand prix teams. The proposed adjustment aims to establish a 60:40 split in power output between the internal combustion engine and the battery system, deviating from the current 50:50 ratio. Despite some opposition, Honda, Mercedes HPP, and Red Bull Powertrains seem in favor of the alteration. A supermajority vote, including four out of five power unit manufacturers, FIA, and F1, is crucial for the adjustment to progress. Sainz advocates for a strong approach from the FIA in implementing the change for the betterment of the sport and the show. The decision on the potential modification raises discussions on the future direction of the Formula 1 power unit regulations.
