Ferrari’s Influence: The Controversy Surrounding the FIA’s Lifeline to F1 Teams

Discussions remain ongoing over the sticking point and when the ADUO process will be enacted.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur clarified that the FIA’s ADUO system won’t be implemented until a key issue is resolved. This system allows power unit manufacturers lagging behind to introduce performance-related engine upgrades. Depending on their performance relative to the benchmark, manufacturers will have opportunities for upgrades this season and in 2027. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has raised concerns about potential leapfrogging but remains supportive of the system. The timing of the ADUO process is uncertain due to race cancellations and technical regulations. Vasseur highlighted that while there is clarity on parameters and assessments, the timing issue remains the only concern. Trust in the FIA’s decision-making process is crucial in the implementation of the ADUO system.
