Formula E has taken the covers off next season’s brand-new car which has eclipsed an F1 feat – the Gen3 Evo.
Formula E has officially unveiled the Gen3 Evo (Gen3.5) at the Circuit de Monaco, ahead of this weekend’s Monaco E-Prix, set to be introduced starting in Season 11 (2024/25) until the Gen 4 era in 2026/27. The new car is a significant upgrade from the current Gen3 machinery, with a 0-60 mph time of 1.82 secs and a top speed of 200 mph, making it the fastest accelerating single-seater globally, 30% faster than current F1 cars. The Gen3 Evo features a new softer Hankook iON tire for better grip, a new body kit, and all-wheel drive for the first time in Formula E history to maximize traction and acceleration. With 350 kW of power, the car has a regenerative braking capacity of 600 kW and can recharge in 30 secs once Attack Charge is initiated, producing 50% of race energy through regenerative braking. Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds described the Gen3 Evo as a groundbreaking chapter embodying innovation and high performance achieved sustainably, intensifying the thrill of racing for drivers and fans worldwide. The new powertrain rules allow suppliers to bring in entirely new powertrains as the current season’s hardware homologation ends. Lap times are expected to be significantly quicker next season, with simulations suggesting lap times two seconds faster at the Monaco E-Prix, alongside Formula E’s commitment to environmental sustainability and battling climate change, including using 35% recycled and sustainable materials in the new tires. FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem praised the Gen3 Evo as a “significant leap forward”, highlighting the joint commitment of the FIA and Formula E in advancing sustainable motorsport technology.
