Expert Guidance for F1 Drivers as Storm Looms Over Canadian GP

The Canadian Grand Prix is currently forecast to be fully wet – raising an interesting question for drivers.

“Pirelli has advised F1 drivers to consider using full wet tires at the Canadian Grand Prix if expected rainstorms hit Montreal. Current forecasts predict heavy rain at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Sunday afternoon, with the race scheduled for a 16:00 local start. In past wet conditions, drivers preferred intermediate tires, but due to unique circumstances, Pirelli suggests full wets initially. The track’s cold temperatures and low-energy nature pose challenges making full wet tires potentially favorable. This recommendation follows Haas’ successful use of full wets in similar conditions in the 2024 Canadian GP. If rain occurs, Pirelli believes the wet tires might offer better performance than intermediates given the upcoming weather and track conditions.”
