Stepping Towards Transparency: F1 and FIA Seek Independent Guidance for Crucial Discussions

The FIA and F1 have been encouraged to be the “independent” and “neutral” voice in the upcoming meetings with F1 teams in the run-up to the Miami Grand Prix.

Bernie Collins and Karun Chandhok have discussed potential solutions and structural challenges in the decision-making process leading up to the April meetings between the FIA, F1, and the teams regarding the 2026 regulations.

Criticism of the current generation of cars was heightened after Oliver Bearman’s crash at the Japanese Grand Prix, prompting further scrutiny.

The F1 Commission is scheduled to meet on April 9, with additional regulatory discussions planned before the Miami Grand Prix in May.

These upcoming meetings aim to address concerns regarding energy deployment, closing speeds, and the overall drivability of cars under the new power unit regulations.

Collins emphasized the current focus on improving qualifying performance rather than race conditions in discussions ahead of the meetings, suggesting adjustments in battery charging, fuel flow, and power unit characteristics.

She proposed either reducing battery charge during laps to resemble last year’s lap times or increasing fuel flow to shift emphasis back to the internal combustion engine for more balanced power unit performance.
