Unveiling the Mystery: Carlos Sainz Reveals the Inside Story of F1 Rules Delay

Carlos Sainz believes change to the F1 regulations will be slow coming due to background forces.

Williams driver and GPDA director, Carlos Sainz, believes F1’s power unit manufacturers are influencing the ongoing discussions on the future engine regulations.

Talks during the April break focused on addressing engine regulations for the Miami GP, resulting in increased super-clipping to 350kw and reduced energy to 7 MJ from 8 MJ.

2027 will see further changes, including a shift to 50-50 power output, a key issue with current power units according to Sainz.

McLaren’s Andrea Stella proposed delaying major rule changes until 2028 to address more problems, requiring a super majority vote on the Power Unit Advisory Committee.

Despite challenges, Sainz advocates for significant changes by 2027 for the good of the sport, highlighting the influence certain power unit manufacturers hold in discussions.
