Breaking: FIA announce major F1 engine changes after driver complaints
The FIA has confirmed major changes to current power units for the 2027 season, following a meeting involving team principals, F1 Management, and power unit manufacturers.
Agreement was reached on several proposals after recent safety-focused regulatory changes for the Miami Grand Prix, intended to enhance driver challenge during qualifying.
Although initial changes received a positive response in Miami, drivers felt more alterations were necessary, leading to upcoming enhancements to power units for the 2027 season.
The FIA emphasized that these changes aim to improve competitiveness, safety, and spectator experience, with ongoing evaluation and adjustments planned for future events.
Longer-term measures for 2027 include a nominal power increase in Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) with a fuel-flow increase and a reduction in Energy Recovery System (ERS) deployment power.
Further technical discussions will shape the final regulatory package, reflecting collaborative efforts among stakeholders, FIA, and F1 drivers.
