Audi announce Le Mans legend to senior new F1 position

After the surprise exit of Jonathan Wheatley, Audi was forced into a reshuffle.

Allan McNish will become Audi’s new Racing Director in F1, starting from the Miami Grand Prix, as per the recent announcement by the team.

McNish, a three-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner, will work alongside F1 project head Mattia Binotto in his new role, which was created to support the leadership of the Audi F1 programme.

Having previously led Audi’s Formula E project to success, McNish will now oversee all trackside operations, including sporting matters, race strategy, and driver management.

Expressing his excitement for the new role, McNish emphasized the importance of representing Audi in the prestigious world of Formula 1 and contributing directly to trackside performance.

His focus will be on optimizing all aspects of the team’s race operations and enhancing competitiveness, while continuing to lead the Driver Development Programme as well.
