Audi is in line to receive a key FIA lifeline after the opening races of the F1 season.
Audi’s boss, Mattia Binotto, expressed that the team cannot expect miraculous improvements in upgrading their F1 power unit, even with the FIA’s ADUO lifeline. The Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities programme for 2026 enables power unit manufacturers to enhance performance if they fall below specific power thresholds. Teams, like Audi, can receive ADUO upgrades if they are 2% behind the benchmark power unit, such as Mercedes, with further upgrades possible for greater deficits. Binotto reiterated Audi’s focus on their 2030 plan, emphasizing that significant engine development takes time, and they are not looking for immediate miracles but steady improvement through a well-structured plan. The team aims to address challenges in a thoughtful and strategic manner rather than relying on sudden breakthroughs, understanding the importance of patience and persistence in the competitive world of Formula 1.
