Alex Palou hit with penalty after thrilling Indy 500 finish

“Alex Palou and his #10 Chip Ganassi team were deducted five points by IndyCar due to a technical infringement during the Indy 500.

Despite finishing seventh, Palou was only one second behind winner Felix Rosenqvist, who narrowly beat David Malukas in the closest-ever Indy 500 finish, with just 0.0233 seconds after a one-lap shootout post a late red flag.

After the race, it was discovered that Palou’s front-wing did not meet the height measurement requirements during scrutineering, failing to measure above 8.3000 inches at any angle.

The violation was determined to be the result of an assembly error rather than an intentional modification, so Palou was not disqualified or penalized with a time penalty.

Instead of a harsher punishment, the team received a $10,000 fine and lost five championship points in the standings.”
