Charles Leclerc finished the first free practice session of the year in the lead position on the timesheet, ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton.
The session mainly featured a battle between Ferrari and Red Bull, with Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar taking third and fourth places for Red Bull.
Aston Martin faced challenges, as Fernando Alonso did not participate and Lance Stroll completed only three laps.
Reigning champion Lando Norris encountered gearbox problems and retired early, while Arvid Lindblad and Alex Albon suffered stoppages on the track.
