WRC Japan: Evans closes out Saturday with comfortable lead
After a strong performance in treacherous wet conditions on Friday, Evans holds a commanding 1m49.9s lead over his teammate Ogier going into the final day’s stages. Toyota is on track for a podium lockout, with Rovanpera in third place, 1m40.6s behind the leader. Lappi, in the sole remaining Hyundai, finished the day in fourth place. Tanak extended his lead over Katsuta to 14.9s in the final stage of the day. Lappi triumphed in the third pass through the Stadium Super Special, beating rally leader Evans by 2.9s. Tanak had the second-fastest time in that stage, followed closely by Katsuta. Crews will tackle 84.08km of stages on Sunday.
