Unpredictable Elements: NASCAR’s Atlanta Cup Race Halted by Unyielding Rain

Just past the halfway point of Stage 1, NASCAR threw the first caution of the Cup race at Atlanta due to inclement weather in the area, with very light rain falling and showers close by the track. NASCAR initiated the yellow flag on Lap 37, then brought the cars down pit road on Lap 43.

Joey Logano maintained the lead from pole position with Austin Cindric in second, followed by Josh Berry, Brad Keselowski, and William Byron in the top five. The top ten also included Carson Hocevar, Kyle Larson, Ryan Preece, Christopher Bell, and Ryan Blaney.

Despite some drivers, including Logano, expressing concerns about handling, the race has been incident-free, with 39 out of the 40 starters still on the lead lap. David Starr will receive the free pass when the race resumes.

Drivers were instructed to stay in their cars during the brief delay, which lasted about 20 minutes before the cars were re-fired.
