Unpredictable Elements: Mercedes Fights the Elements at F1 British Grand Prix

George Russell expressed his belief that Mercedes is heavily reliant on the weather conditions to perform well, particularly after struggling in hotter track temperatures during the British Grand Prix weekend.

He highlighted Mercedes’ tendency to underperform in warmer conditions and the team’s struggles with rear tyre thermal degradation, which have become apparent over the past seasons.

Russell is optimistic about Mercedes’ prospects in cooler weather and lower track temperatures, as seen in the promising start to Saturday’s track action at Silverstone.

He acknowledged the frustration of constantly relying on weather conditions to determine performance and emphasized the need for Mercedes to address this issue moving forward.

Looking ahead to the rest of the weekend, Russell noted the impact of rising temperatures on Mercedes’ competitiveness and expressed a preference for cooler weather to avoid rear-axle overheating.

Additionally, he commented on Ferrari’s recent resurgence in performance, attributing it to the changing weather conditions and potential disadvantages for both teams in different scenarios.

Russell admitted that while wet weather could present challenges due to increased tire degradation, a dry race on Sunday would be ideal for Mercedes as they seek to regain their form and competitiveness.
