Aston Martin’s tech guru Adrian Newey believes attracting Max Verstappen to the Formula 1 squad hinges on building the best car. Newey recently joined the team as Managing Technical Partner in the new Silverstone superteam led by Lawrence Stroll, with Andy Cowell and Enrico Cardile also on board, and Honda as their engine partner for 2026. While Aston Martin is gearing up for a title bid under F1’s new regulations, rumors swirl around a potential move for Verstappen, with reports even mentioning a $1 billion offer from Stroll.
Verstappen reportedly has exit clauses in his Red Bull contract, allowing him to leave before his 2028 deal’s conclusion if the team is not competitive for the championship. However, recent improvements by Red Bull hint at a possible extended stay for the world champion. Newey emphasized that attracting Verstappen would require Aston Martin to focus on building a competitive car, as Max values performance above all else. Additionally, Newey expressed long-term aspirations to collaborate with Fernando Alonso and praised Lance Stroll, noting that the latter is underestimated as a driver in comparison to his teammates.
