Toyota not “getting over excited” over WEC Imola triumph
David Floury, technical director at Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe, analyzed the victory at the Imola 6 Hours, attributing it to strategic errors made by Ferrari rather than pure pace. He acknowledged Ferrari’s faster lap times but emphasized that Toyota won due to strategy and team execution. Floury expressed concern over the lack of pace of the GR010 compared to Ferrari’s 499P LMH. He commended Kamui Kobayashi’s driving skills during the challenging final laps in the rain, where he had to save fuel and fend off competition. Toyota’s victory in Imola followed a disappointing performance in the previous WEC season-opener. Floury hinted at the need for further leveling in the Hypercar class despite recent Balance of Performance changes.
